A note
from Darryll
From as early as I can remember, I felt called to speak. I was captivated by rappers, comedians, and preachers — not just for what they said, but how they said it. How they moved people. How they made people feel something that shifted their mood, their health, their confidence — their perspective. Yet, despite feeling the calling to do the same, I ignored the inner whispers and listened to my insecurities instead.
- I’m not a speaker.
- I can barely put two sentences together.
- People have been through way worse or accomplished way more.
- I have ADHD.
- There’s no way I can tell my story without unraveling.
- I’m not an emotional person.
- There’s already more than enough speakers out there.
- I’m better 1-on-1 with people.
- I don’t know what to say, how to say it, or where even to start.
- I’d rather just do Q&A.
All of those were exact words I said to myself on repeat. So, even though I knew I had a message
I over-performed in other places—mainly sports—because it gave me the affirmation I was too afraid to demand through my voice. Everything changed in 2012 when I found faith and surrendered to the whispers I had been ignoring inside. Despite my insecurities, my inexperience, the pain I was still holding from my past, and the fear I had about stepping into who I was meant to be, I started afraid.

Humble beginnings
Desperate to become the leader and communicator I knew I was destined to be, I did everything I could to grow — books, podcasts, online research, courses, etc. I hired coaches like John C. Maxwell, Josh Shipp, Pete Vargas, Pat Quinn, Jane Atkinson, and Grant Baldwin. I trained under voices like Travis Hall, Eric Thomas, Lisa Nichols, Bishop T.D. Jakes and Les Brown. I gave TEDx talks. And I started teaching what I’d learned about storytelling, communication, voice and leadership. I committed myself (and still do) to the mastery of three things: Despite my insecurities, my inexperience, the pain I was still holding from my past, and the fear I had about stepping into who I was meant to be,
